Claim, Evidence, Reasoning
This week our scientists learned about Claim, Evidence and Reasoning! They will need to know about this as they learn to argue from evidence over the course of the next few weeks.
Claim- This is a statement that answers a problem or question.
Evidence- This is data- either numbers or characteristics (observations, measurements or results from an experiment).
Reasoning- This is an explanation that tells how or why the data supports or doesn't support the claim.
A claim is made after the scientist has completed their experiment. They use of all of the data they have collected as the basis of their claim. Our scientists will have many opportunities over the course of the next few months to practice making claims and using evidence from their data.
