EDC: Spaghetti Towers
Our young engineers started this year off with a bang! They completed their first Engineering Design Challenge that required them to construct the tallest free-standing tower they could using the following materials:
* 25 pieces of raw spaghetti
* 1 meter of tape
* 1 meter of string
* 2 pieces of paper
Students worked with a partner to develop a plan in under 20 minutes. They then constructed the tower in an additional 20 minutes. Students used what they knew about the properties of these materials and basic structural design to develop their towers. At the end of the class we measured and recorded the height of every tower. They had a wonderful time working with one another and teaching each other the "do's" and "dont's " of building with spaghetti. Please take a peak at some of their towers below!
